RE: Asbestos Management Plan
Asbestos is an issue we have been dealing with for many years. The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (referred to as AHERA) was enacted to determine the extent of and develop solutions for any problems schools may have with asbestos.
We had our facilities inspected in 1988 by Roth Asbestos and in 1989 by Thompson Asbestos Consultants. Subsequent re-inspections were made in 1992, 1995, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2013. The inspectors located, sampled and rated the condition and hazard potential of all material in our facilities suspected of containing asbestos. The inspection and laboratory analysis records were used to develop our asbestos management plans. Beeson Elementary, Linn Elementary, Northwest Elementary, Soule Elementary and the new Dodge City High School do not contain asbestos materials. All asbestos has been removed from Comanche Middle School except for asbestos in the old furnace which was sealed and encapsulated to prevent the asbestos hazard.
The asbestos management plan for our facilities includes: this notification letter, education and training of our employees, a set of plans and procedures designed to minimize the disturbance of the asbestos containing materials and plans for regular surveillance of the asbestos containing materials.
A copy of the asbestos inspection and the management plan is on file in each building and is available at any time for review. In addition, a complete set of inspection and management plans for all buildings is on file at the central administration business office. These plans are available for public review during regular office hours.
Inquiries regarding the plan should be directed to the Business Office at 620-371-1001.
We will continue to take those steps necessary to ensure your children and our employees a safe and
healthy environment in which to learn and work.
