SEL in Our Schools
Elementary
- Classroom teachers use the Second Step and Character Strong programs to deliver lessons in the classroom focused on social-emotional learning.
- Elementary school counselors deliver counseling standards through all classroom during weekly lessons.
- School counselors provide small group and individual counseling to students with evidence-based mental health curriculum through Character Strong.
- School counselors use a variety of resources to supplement and further BSEL skills for every student.
- Students with an IEP may receive additional services through a resource teacher, social worker, or school psychologist.
Middle School
- Classroom teachers use Character Strong weekly during Academic Extension time, building off lessons learned in elementary school.
- Suicide Prevention Week and Mental Health Awareness Month are both highlighted with developmentally appropriate information and activities.
- School counselors provide small group and individual counseling to students.
- Students with an IEP may receive additional services through a resource teacher, social worker, or school psychologist.
High School
- Social emotional learning is provided by classroom lessons during flex time.
- Informational campaigns during Suicide Prevention Week and Mental Health Awareness Month
- School counselors and Student Wellness Advocates provide small group and individual counseling to students.
- Students with an IEP may receive additional services through a resource teacher, social worker, or school psychologist.
Additionally, middle school and high school students develop an individual plan of study through School Links.

Students’ social emotional learning is measured through the SAEBRS survey which is delivered three times per year to all students in grades K-12.
The District CARES team is proud to support students by monitoring student data and determining appropriate and timely behavior interventions through school building teams with a variety of expertise.
Social Emotional Learning is based on Kansas Social Emotional Character Development Standards.
