We are pleased to announce that Daniel (Danny) Ackerman has been selected as the new Principal of Dodge City High School, effective July 1, 2025. Mr. Ackerman brings with him a strong background in educational leadership and a deep commitment to student success.

Ackerman has longstanding ties to the Dodge City community as a proud DCHS alumnus. Most recently, he served as Principal of Alternative Education, where he focused on building strong relationships, fostering a positive school culture, and ensuring students have the tools they need to succeed. Prior to returning to Dodge City, he held a variety of leadership roles, including Associate Principal at Topeka High School, Interim Principal at Highland Park High School, and Assistant Principal at Highland Park from 2012 to 2021. He began his career in education as a secondary social studies teacher at LaCrosse High School, then taught at Washburn Rural Alternative School for over a decade.

Ackerman earned his Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Secondary Education from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, in 1995. He holds endorsements in Social Studies Comprehensive (Grades 7–12). He later completed his Master of Education in Educational Administration at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, in 2006.

Jason Scheck, Associate Superintendent of Human Resources and incoming Superintendent of Schools, shared, “Danny’s leadership experience and operational knowledge make him a valuable addition to our team. We’re confident he will have a positive impact on both staff and students.”

Superintendent Dr. Fred Dierksen added, “Danny’s understanding of district operations and his familiarity with our community make him the right choice for this important role. We’re excited to welcome him back to USD 443.”
