Action Steps

  1. Weekly Building Attendance Review: Principals or APs meet weekly with Attendance Clerks to update Building Attendance Trackers, analyze trends, and initiate interventions for students approaching CA thresholds.
  2. Bi-Weekly District Alignment: Principals/APs attend bi-weekly check-ins with the District Attendance Clerk to align school interventions with district-level strategies and ensure consistency.
  3. District Admin Reviews (3 Times per Year): Principals meet with district leadership at the beginning, middle, and end of the year to review chronic absenteeism data, truancy cases, and progress toward SMART goals.
  4. SMART Goals & Building Plans: Each building principal submits an annual CA SMART goal with subgroup targets and action steps by August 1st.
  5. Tiered Interventions: Follow the district’s Chronic Absenteeism Tiered Protocol to implement Tier 1–3 strategies, including parent education, success plans, MHIT referrals, and documented DIVERT/truancy referrals.
  6. Documentation & Communication: Ensure all parent communication and intervention efforts are thoroughly documented in Skyward.
  7. Collaboration with Stakeholders: Engage the USD 443 Attendance Officer, Juvenile Services, CARES Team, MHIT, and school support teams to provide wraparound services.
  8. Building Culture of Attendance: Run building-wide campaigns promoting attendance and recognize students with strong or improved attendance monthly and quarterly.
  9. Staff Alignment & Focus: Ensure all staff understand the district’s attendance goals, their role in supporting students, and keep CA as a visible, ongoing focus in team meetings and professional learning communities.
