English as a Second Language

As part of the services offered at Dodge City High School, English as a Second Language (ESL) is available.  These courses are designed for students with very limited English proficiency.  Students are placed in these classes according to scores received on the KELPA test.  As long as a student is in the ESL Program, they are required to take an ESL English class each semester (in other words, two a year). Once a student is ready for English 9, then ESL students will be required to take one of the required English classes (English 9, English 10, English 11) each of the remaining years of high school regardless of accumulated English credits.
