USD 443 Board of Education Approves 2025-2026 Budget with Steady Mill Rate

The Dodge City Public Schools Board of Education has approved the 2025-2026 budget, maintaining the same mill levy rate as the 2024-2025 budget year. This achievement comes during a period of strong economic growth in the county, where the assessed valuation increased by nearly $100 million compared to the prior year.
The district’s budget process begins each July 1 and is an ongoing cycle of review, communication, and collaboration with the Kansas State Department of Education and the County. This process continues through mid-June of the following year when final numbers are confirmed, just in time to begin the next cycle on July 1.
Revenue for the district is driven by three primary factors:
- State Aid – determined by student enrollment numbers.
- Local Aid – based on the mill levies.
- Federal Dollars – closely tied to student population.
The largest expenses within the budget continue to focus on supporting the district’s mission to provide high-quality education while focusing on the mission of preparing our students to be capable and contributing participants in a changing world. Major categories include:
- Personnel Payroll, Benefits, and Fixed Costs
- Special Education Services
- Maintenance and Upkeep of Grounds, Buildings, and Facilities
“By maintaining a steady mill levy while addressing the needs of our students, staff, and facilities, this budget reflects both fiscal responsibility and a commitment to student growth,” said Jason Scheck, Superintendent of Schools.
