Dodge City, Kansas – Dr. Fred Dierksen, superintendent of Dodge City Public Schools, announced his plans to retire at the end of the 2024-25 school year.

“The decision to retire was tough because I have enjoyed my eight years in Dodge City. However, I am at peace knowing it is the right one. I’ve based this decision on personal events, prayer and my desire to spend more time with my family.” Dr. Dierksen said.

Dierksen has served eight years as superintendent of Dodge City Public Schools. During his time in Dodge City, he has championed student achievement and developed community relationships needed for workforce initiatives in the community. He lived by his mantra Every Encounter Is Important (EEII), and each week, he was in the school buildings, recognizing staff members for their kindness and generosity towards our students. He has maintained friendships and mentorships in the districts he has served, dedicating over forty-three years to public education.

Dierksen served on the Governor’s Council for Education for four years and on numerous professional boards, including the Council of Superintendents for the Kansas State Department of Education.  He was named SCKMEA Administrator of the Year in 2015 and was a recipient of the KSSA 2024 Dr. Doug Moeckel Distinguished Service Award.

Lisa Killion, president of the Board of Education, expressed deep gratitude for Dr. Dierksen’s leadership during tough and challenging times.  Killion said, “The next superintendent has a stellar standard to live up to.  His commitment to putting people first and building community relationships while guiding the district towards higher curriculum standards and student achievements is impressive. On behalf of the Board, our students, and this great community, we thank Fred for his service and dedication to our schools, staff, and students.”

In the coming weeks, the school board will work with the Kansas Association of Schools Boards (KASB) to select the next superintendent for USD 443.
