Dr. Dierksen receives UCEA Excellence in Educational Leadership Award

August 27, 2020

Dr. Dierksen receives the 2020 UCEA Excellence in Education Leadership Award. This annual award is
recognition for practicing school administrators who have made significant contributions to
administrator preparation.

The Dodge City/Garden City Education Leadership Academy was recognized as an outstanding example
of collaboration and program success. Dr. Steve Karlin, Garden City Public Schools, and Dr. Fred
Dierksen, Dodge City Public Schools, were co-recipients for the 2020 UCEA Excellence in Education
Leadership Award. The recipients are selected by individual universities to build goodwill and recognize
practitioners' contributions to the preparation of junior professionals.
Through the leadership of Dr. Karlin and Dr. Dierksen, the Dodge City and Garden City Leadership
Academy is in its second partnership cohort of leadership preparation. The experiences and
recommendations of students and district-appointed liaisons have shown that the partnership between
these two districts provides opportunities to share, learn, and collaborate.

On behalf of the Department of Educational leadership, College of Education at Kansas State
University, Dr. Donna Augustine-Shaw and Dr. Jerry Johnson presented the award during the USD 443
Board of Education Meeting.
