Over 1300 staff members gathered at the Civic Center for the Welcome Back Convocation 2021 for our teachers and classified staff where Dr. Fred Dierksen shared his vision and top three goals for the year. Goal one is Literacy. We will continue focusing resources and efforts so that all students will learn to read. His second goal is the commitment to the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Department and their work for our students and families. We must understand our student’s stories and the value of diversity in our schools and our community. The third goal is for all to realize that Every Encounter Is Important (EEII). Each teacher and staff member has numerous touchpoints with students or co-workers throughout the day; these encounters change lives. Dr. Dierksen said that we would rely on COMMON SENSE to navigate the school year.
In closing, he reminded all of us that “Education is an honorable career. Your efforts will touch our community, our country, and our world.”
