Bond Progress Updates

Update as of July 28, 2017:


Wilroads Gardens – Complete 

Beeson Elementary – Complete 

Linn Elementary –  Complete


Miller Elementary –  The project passed State Fire Marshal inspection for the kitchen and cafeteria and we have received the final occupancy from the City of Dodge City for these spaces.  Drywall was hung and finished in the new entry and will be painted out next week.  Ceiling tiles will be replaced in the corridors, and new carpeting will go down in the hallways before the teachers return to work. Outside, site utilities continued and should be complete by the end of the week.  The gym floor work continues with the pad and subfloor to be completed this week.  Wood floor should be installed next week and with any luck, it will be painted, sealed, sanded and cured by Aug. 21.  Renovation work continues in the old gymnasium space and the new offices will be complete before Thanksgiving (ahead of schedule)

DCHS – Inside the existing school, we continue closing up ceilings and getting ready for the start of school.  This work is all but complete.


Performing Arts:  The State Fire Marshal inspection went well and there were no issues.  The acoustical wal panels should arrive in the next two weeks and this space should be ready by Aug. 21.


Academic Wing:  Exterior sheathing and framing and wall rough-in continued on the second floor.  Roofing is expected to begin soon and should be mostly dried-in by the time school starts.  This addition is on schedule for a June 2018 completion. 


PE Addition:  The metal building work was delayed fo a week but should begin next week and continue for two months.


CTE Addition:  Steel erection will begin this week.


DCMS:  Piping and steel is flying everywhere at DCMS!  There was a lot of progress roughin in the locker rooms and building the frame for the 6th grade center this week.  The mason is expected to complete his work at the high school early next week and begin on the DCMS gymnasium.  This project is schedule to be complete and ready for fall 2018.    


Northwest Elementary:  This project also passed the State Fire Marshal inspection on the new kitchen and with the health inspection complete, kitchen staff has moved in to prepare for Jump Start that began July 31.  The Teacher's Collaboration Area (lounge) will be ready by Aug. 14.  Windows are still on track for the end of August for the classroom addition.  This will allow the new classrooms to be ready to go by mid-September, ahead of schedule.  The final completion is scheduled for February 2018.


Sunnyside Elementary – Sunnyside passed State Fire Marshal inspection last week and the expectation is to start the paving project in two weeks.  This project is on schedule to move in for the start of the school year.


Soule Elementary – Exterior wall framing and sheathing made progress and will continue over the next two weeks.  The concrete retaining walls along the north end were completed.  Work continued on the site utilities and in the expanded parking lot.  The office renovation continued with tile and floor covering scheduled to be completed at the end of the week.  This overall project is on schedule for the end of Jan. 2018 completion.


Central Elementary:   The roof deck was installed over the new gym and steel erection continued this week.  Underground plumbing rough-in was completed in the classroom addition and the elevator pit foundation walls will be placed this week.  The majority of the remaining exterior walls on the gym addition are metal stud and that work will begin before school starts.  This project will be complete for the start of school in 2018.

Ross, Comanche  and security work –Company presentational and qualifications were scored by the interview team and a recommendation has been made and will be presented at the August Board of Education meeting for approval.  Overall, the security work will not be fully complete until August 2018.


The following are activities of  the Design Team for the week of July 24, 2017.

  • The  construction of the projects for Central Elementary  is continuing. Msonry is up at the gym and music rooms area.  Structural roof work is near complete at the gym.  Building pad and foundations work continues for the two0level classroom wings.
  • The projects  for Dodge City Middle School are underway. Structural steel work for the two-level sixth grade center is in progress.  Masonry work begins soon at the gymnasium.
  • Northwest Elementary  project continues with the classroom wing to be complete for fall 2017. The masonry work continues.  
  • DCHS projects continues with construction. Academic Wing is framed.  Steel framing for the Physical Education Building is beginning next week. The site work improvements continue.
  • At  Soule,  the metal stud wall system for the exterior wall is progressing.
  • The final punch list for Miller was completed for all areas except the toilet rooms and office areas.
  • The punch list for Sunnyside was prepared last week.
  • The furniture bid documents preparation for all schools are  progressing.  Bidding furniture packages for the DCHS, DCMS, Soule, Northwest and Central  will be early to mid 2018.
  • The selection of the security system vendor will be made soon.
