    KPERS

     

    Employees of Kansas public school districts who work more than 630 hours per year are also members of KPERS, the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System.  KPERS membership totals more than 260,000 active, inactive and retired members.  They also manage approximately $11 billion in assets for members' benefits.  As KPERS members, employees also receive:

    • Long-Term Disability, which takes effect after 6 months of being unable to work

    • A guaranteed retirement benefit for life

    • Basic life insurance and death benefits for active members

    KPERS employees are classified into one of two tiers, depending on when they became a KPERS member:

    • Tier 1 - those who became members before July 1, 2009

    • Tier 2 - those who became members July 1, 2009 or after

     

    Tax-Sheltered Annuity - 403(b)
