Chris Velez receives inaugural Riederer Family Scholarship

Dodge City High School Senior Chris Velez is the first ever recipient of the newly formed Riederer Family Scholarship.  Velez was selected for his active involvement in both high school and community activities and excellent scholastic resume.

The Riederer Family Scholarship committee is awarding one $5,000 renewable scholarship each school year beginning with the class of 2021.

Chris Velez was a member of the 2020 Red Demon State Championship Soccer Team. He also played tennis, band, and is a 4.0 GPA All-Academic All-WAC award winner.  Velez is a member of the National Honor Society, Young Conservatives, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Louie Riederer is a 1973 graduate of Dodge City High School.  In announcing the winner, Riederer expressed how pleased the committee was in the quality of the finalists.  The committee felt Velez stood out because of his work ethic, commitment to furthering his education, and his dedication to Dodge City High School and the community.

Velez plans to attend Dodge City Community College before transferring to Kansas State University and study architecture.
